Introduction – The Military

Even though the last two centuries saw the birth and the growth of the pacifist movement, it is an undeniable fact that the military has, is and probably will continue occupying a large part of human society. The military extends its influence into almost every aspect of human civilization, be it history, culture, technology, science, economy, etc. Being present in various human institutions, a variety of different ‘’problems’’ will therefore be related to it and the following report will elaborate on these problems (which are the uniqueness of the military profession, the effects of military industry on a national economy, the global military expenditure, the concept of ultimate sacrifice and the long history of the military). However, this presentation will concentrate more specifically on the economic elements of the military and its influence on national economies as well as the global economy as a whole. Towards the end of the paper, a link between these economic aspects and my own personal future will be established.
